Sulphur compounds are released during fermentation which can severely disrupt the biogas process as they interfere with methane generation. And the problem doesn’t stop there as the compounds also cause odour and corrosion problems.

THE HIGH SULPHURCONCENTRATION HAZARDS

These issues include the disruption of microbiology, inhibition of methane formation, and precipitation of trace elements, leading to the killing of methane bacteria. They can also cause damage to machinery, have adverse effects on components, and result in corrosion within the system. Additional consequences include higher emissions, damage to combined heat and power (CHP) units, acidification of engine oil, corrosion of engine parts, and ultimately the potential loss of warranty.
